There’s something for everyone at Rockfish Valley Community Center this month! From community breakfasts and family events to hands-on workshops, wellness classes, local authors, and opportunities to volunteer, June is packed with ways to connect, learn, and have fun.
Here’s a look at what’s coming up.
Start the Month with Breakfast and Community
Kick off the month at our monthly All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Breakfast, where volunteers serve up pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, coffee, and plenty of good conversation. It’s one of RVCC’s favorite traditions, and we’re always looking for a few extra helping hands if you’d like to volunteer.
While you’re here, stop by the Treasure Chest Thrift Store for its 50% Off Sale and browse for great bargains.
Community Events
Several free community events are taking place throughout the month.
Eligible voters can register or ask questions during our Voter Registration Drive.
Book lovers won’t want to miss Meet the Authors, featuring local writers Susan Burke, Patrick Kelly, Brent Kitching, and Marta Anne Tice as they discuss their work before a book signing and refreshments.
Outdoor enthusiasts can join Friends of Nelson Community Conversation, where Appalachian Trail expert Pat Doyle shares stories, history, and firsthand experiences from hiking the entire trail.
Looking ahead, families are invited to celebrate Family Fun Day 250, a free afternoon filled with live music, games, food, bounce houses, prizes, and activities commemorating America’s 250th anniversary.
Learn Something New
Whether you’re exploring a new hobby or expanding an existing one, RVCC has classes for every interest.
Create your own carved stone artwork during the Stone Carving Workshop, perfect for beginners and returning students alike.
Experience deep relaxation during Sound Bath Meditation with Greg Burns, where soothing vibrations from singing bowls, gongs, and chimes create a peaceful evening of rest and renewal.
Build strength and improve flexibility with our monthly Strength & Yin Yoga classes. Attend one session or stay for both to enjoy an energizing workout followed by restorative movement.
Our popular Ecology & Embodiment series continues to bring participants together to deepen their relationship with nature through movement, ecology, mindfulness, and seasonal exploration. The current session is full, but a waitlist is available for those interested in future openings.
Summer Programs
Registration is underway for Rising Curtain Community Theater’s Youth Summer Camp, where young actors will spend three weeks bringing The Princess and the Pea to life on stage.
We’re also exploring a brand-new community roller skating program. If you’d like to see skating sessions at RVCC this summer, we’d love your feedback through our online survey.
Support Local
Every Wednesday, RVCC hosts its Farm Pickup & Local Vendor Program, making it easy to pick up pre-ordered farm goods while shopping from local vendors.
We’re also looking for additional farms and small businesses interested in participating. If you’re a local producer or maker, we’d love to hear from you.
Get Involved
The Rockfish Artist Community is welcoming new potters to its shared studio, offering access to wheels, a kiln, slab roller, and other equipment in a collaborative creative space.
We’re also seeking volunteers for Rockfish Gallery & Gifts. If you enjoy supporting local artists, meeting visitors, and giving back to the community, volunteering is a wonderful way to get involved.
New at RVCC
Electric vehicle owners can now take advantage of our new Level 2 EV charging station, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the RVCC parking lot.
