Big things are happening at RVCC!

It’s been a wild month of dodging thunderstorms and intense heat, juggling contractor schedules and equipment meltdowns.  But it’s totally worth it, because the paving of our pickleball courts,  path, and accessible parking spaces is done!

We’ll need to wait about a month for the asphalt to cure, and then we can bring in the sport court surfacing and line painting.  In the meantime, we’ll be putting up some post-and-rail fencing to protect the paved path*  and installing a designated vehicle crossing point.

*It’s not common knowledge, but the walking path isn’t strong enough for the weight of a vehicle, and it can easily be damaged if you drive across it.  Please help us protect this investment—your investment—by keeping your cars away!

There is nothing more satisfying than seeing folks walking the completed path loop, and kids on all kinds of wheels –from bikes to scooters to skateboards–cruising around it.

Next up—lights and nets for the pickleball courts!

Coming this fall: Electronic Vehicle Charging and Parking Upgrade!

Thanks to an invitation to partner with Virginia Clean Cities’ “Rural ReImagined” program, we applied for and received a ChargePoint CT4021 dual pedestal 60 amp charging station!

We were lucky to get one of the last of these units available after the funding freeze for environmental programs took effect.

With the help of the Schaeneman Foundation and the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge, we look forward to installing the station in the RVCC parking lot this fall!

Finally, with all the improvements to the rec and event facilities, we’ve decided to bite the bullet and fix the gravel parking lot as well, re-grading the surface to remove potholes and improve storm drainage, and introducing parking bumpers to provide better alignment and to maximize parking capacity.  We’re hoping to have it all done in time for October pancakes!
