Rockfish Valley Community Center will celebrate the completion of its newly expanded James M. Cowley Community Playground with a celebration and dedication ceremony on Sunday, May 5, 2024, between 3:00 and 5:00 pm.
The event marks the latest installment of a series of recreational and other improvements completed at RVCC over the past several years, including last year’s expansion of its solar energy production system and relocation and expansion of the SK8 Nelson skatepark, the completion of the mobile stage of the Blue Mountain Pavilion entertainment complex in 2022, and the installation of the Center’s new wildflower meadow in partnership with the Nelson County Master Gardeners, which will debut later this spring.
The new playground is named for long-time RVCC supporter Jim Cowley, who has been instrumental in arranging foundation support for both the playground and skatepark projects. Finishing touches are now being placed on the playground features, which include a multi-level climbing and sliding complex, new swing sets, musical play features, a play tunnel with bridge, and more.
The dedication ceremony will include unveiling of the playground welcome sign, light refreshments, face-painting for kids, and remarks acknowledging the contributions of Cowley and the many other contributors and volunteers who have made the new facility possible.
